In the 18 year disappearance of those Australian music icons, Damian amassed a hefty body of work in his band's ROOT!, The DC3 and Damian Cowell’s Disco Machine; has been a commissioned artist at MONA; and has turned his style to comedy at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Only The Shit You Love is Damian Cowell’s story of a disturbingly recognisable parallel universe where we can’t decide whether to erase or exhume the past – told of course in his distinctive darkly comic style. But it’s not just a story. It’s Damian Cowell staking a claim to be one of the most creative artists this country has ever produced. In a staggeringly ambitious move, he wrote the songs and screenplay, designed, drew, and then animated a feature-length 19 part animated graphic novel web series, and then produced a 19 episode accompanying podcast. Damian capped it all off with the release of Only The Shit You Love, the double album, featuring cameos by Judith Lucy, Patience Hodgson, Aunty Donna, Shaun Micallef, Geraldine Quinn, Matt Stewart and Liz Stringer.
